Cholesterol screening is now done in childhood so ask your pediatrician if your child needs to have screening done. For adults, you should have your cholesterol lab screening done when you turn 20. If it is normal, checking it every 2 or 3 years is common. If you are high risk or have elevated cholesterol levels, you should have it checked every year. Elevated cholesterol is a risk factor for heart disease so you don't feel bad if it is elevated but damage is done over years if it is elevated and that damage is preventable! Make sure to stay on top of this!
